TOKYO – Nokia Networks successfully demonstrated a new opportunity to increase network throughput at Infocom World 2015 in Athens by using 3CC Carrier Aggregation with a combination of LTE-TDD band 42 (3.5 GHz) and LTE-FDD band 3 (1.8 GHz). This combination proves the potential of the increasingly important band 42 in helping network operators increase throughput for their customers. Using Artiza Networks’DuoSIM-A Functional Tester (FT), the demonstration showcased Nokia’s eNB operating smoothly at its maximum designed throughput.
The pressure is mounting on communications infrastructure to accommodate soaring data volume from mobile services like video streaming and VoLTE. To meet these demands, 12 of the 62 commercial TD-LTE networks are already using 3.5GHz spectrum, making it a crucial frontier in satisfying subscriber’s expectations for throughput and connectivity. The DuoSIM-A FT’s powerful but economically sized hardware allowed Nokia’s demo to highlight new possibilities in 3.5GHz bands by adding band 42 into a 3CC, FDD-TDD joint transmission configuration. While chipsets are still in development to support this first-ever combination of cutting edge technologies, Artiza Networks’ DuoSIM-A FT helped Nokia set an early benchmark for this powerful new RAN configuration.
